Side yards collect roof and yard runoff that often runs against the foundation. We grade the base so water moves through the free-draining system and away from the house, and add French drain or channel capacity where runoff is heavy.

Turf needs no sunlight, so it stays full and green in the narrow, shaded strip between house and fence where natural grass fails first. We select shade-appropriate fibers that also shed leaf litter easily.
